Gift of Life

Its NOT just a donation of their precious BLOOD but also their PRECIOUS time…

I appreciate that each donor spends their vauable time to donate blood, l have myself a great respect for time, for anyone who has gone through an illness would know. Constant hospitalisations and treatment means a hectic time calendar, and often falling behind on the normal day to day living.

There are no words that I can express, that can ever repay the gift, that a blood donor has selflessly given, to our children and many other people alike.

Dont just think about becoming a regular blood donor,
be a regular blood donor.

As for that blood you donate may one day save someone you love
as dearly as we Love our children.

Dedicated Donors

Our children up till now have received approximately 350 units of red blood in total.

This blood is mostly from dedicated donors. I often wonder who these donors are? Mostly whilst sitting in the middle of our two children during a blood transfusion in hospital. Not what they look like but.......

  • "What do they like to do?"
  • "Do they have a family?"
  • "Do they enjoy fashion like our daughter?"
  • "Do they play basketball like our son?"
  • "Do they know who their blood helps?"

I often think about who these people are that give so much of themselves. People that have given our children an opportunity to have a somewhat, as close to as possible, normal life.

Who are these people?

Blood and Life

For our children to kick a ball, go to school or play at a friends house, they need regular 4 weekly blood transfusions for the rest of their lives.

The Blood recieved from donors allows their bodies to not have to work so hard. The gift received from donors gives our children the opportunity to experience a normal life full of family, friends, fun and games.

When our children were first diagnosed with sicklecell thalassaemia we were told that they would only live to the age of Five. If they recieved blood transfusions they would have five years more live to the age of ten.

Thanks to the blood donors, I have a teenager that enjoy's playing sport, is able to come on long walks with me and hang out with her friends. She is a typical teenager that loves shopping, goes to the movies, listen's to music and goes to party’s with her girlfirends. She is able to do this because of donors. She has dreams just like anyone else. She has a future. When she grows up she wants to become an Interior designer or an Architect.

Thanks to the blood donors, our son is 12. He is a member of the school’s basketball team. This young man has a passion for sport and cooking and hopes to realise his dream one day soon of becoming a professional basketball player or coach and a chef with his own restaurant. He has these dreams and more, why? BLOOD DONORS

Thanks to all the blood donors, our youngest child has a big brother & sister that she can hug, play and grow up with.
